Advert Review: Best Billboard Advertisements
Every Monday here on Profit Duck we will be looking at marketing techniques used by companies to advertise their services or products. Last week we looked at the television advert for Compare the Market, featuring a very memorable little character and nice stories. Instead of looking at another TV advert, today we will be looking at a number of billboard adverts.
Today’s Marketing Techniques – Billboard Advertisements
A billboard is normally a large outdoor structure which is used as an advertising means. These types of advertisements are normally placed on large, popular roads, as then they are seen by all the people who pass by. Although many of us think billboards don’t really meet the objective of selling us products and services, they are a type of advertisement which builds a companies brand image and then when we are in stores etc. we feel familiar with them.
In recent years billboards are becoming more and more innovative.
The first “scented billboard,” an outdoor sign emitting the odors of black pepper and charcoal to suggest a grilled steak, was erected on NC 150 near Mooresville, North Carolina by the Bloom grocery chain. The sign depicted a giant cube of beef being pierced by a large fork that extended to the ground. The scents were emitted between 7–10 a.m. and 4– to 7 p.m. from May 28, 2010 through June 18, 2010.
