Can a Niche Website Be Your Downfall? Thumbnail

Can a Niche Website Be Your Downfall?

In my last post we looked at whether concentrating on Google could be a very bad path to take. Today I would like to follow the same kind of idea, that concentrating on one thing can lead to problems in other areas. Today however, I would like to look at niche websites.

What Is A Niche Website?

A niche website is a website which focuses on a small segment of a bigger market, such as instead of writing about Football, you write about a specific football club, such as Real Madrid. Niche websites can be done on products, markets, specific themes or a main market which is small.

What’s So Special about Niche Websites?

Niche websites are talked about so much on the internet because they have such a specific topic, it is easier to make a quick site and then get it ranked quite highly in Google. Also, as this website will have specific keywords and terms, it is easier to find appropriate advertising which you know your visitors will click on. The main advertiser on niche websites is Google Adsense, as with such a specific website it is very easy for them to provide links which people are much more likely to click on.

I personally quite like niche websites, as I normally make them with a few articles on and then just leave them, whilst seeing where they head. If they fail, not much is lost, if they earn some money each day, great. On the other hand, many people make niche websites which they constantly update because they love writing about the content, I have one website like this. Either way you use a niche website, they are so special as people find it easier to break into the website building, blogging world, as in a niche there isn’t as much competition, so you are in some ways guaranteed some success.

This is however, where the problems start to arise.

You Need Competition to Survive

I’m a firm believer that competition makes you stronger, your not going to run a 100 metre race at your full pace if your against no one else, are you? So what changes in the online world? Competition is always a good thing, it makes you try harder, which in turn can lead you to producing better looking websites, better written articles and more time spent trying to build a community around your websites. Consequently, this will help you take over the market some what. At the same time you are trying harder, so will your competition, which again will make you try harder, benefitting your readers and hopefully yourself, in terms of profits.

This shows that competition is vital, and what doesn’t a niche always have? Yes, competition. As they are such small markets there will be hardly, if any, competition. This may cause you not to try your hardest, because without this competition, you will believe that you can win without doing much, without trying your hardest.

This is where niche websites can be your downfall, because with doing a niche website, you may not get the motivation from trying to compete, which larger markets on the web will offer. In the long run this could lead to that niche website failing, or making no where near as much money as you first thought.

Take a Look Around and Motivate Yourself

What I am trying to iterate is that competition leads to motivation, motivation helps us achieve anything we would like to achieve, so we need to this to help us succeed in the online world. If there isn’t much competition in your niche, then look around and try and find some, as not only will it give you some tips about how to improve your website, but it will also help motivate yourself to compete with them. All in all helping you improve your website and therefore increase profits.
