Has The Recession Affected Website Owners?
After hearing the other day that the UK was finally out of recession, albeit only just, it lead me to thinking a lot about how this recession has affected people who make money online through blogs and websites. The main people think will have happened is that earning will have fallen, due to advertisers having less money to splash on marketing. However, by looking at the points below, I believe that the recession could have helped us bloggers out.
People Losing Their Jobs = More People At Home
It’s a horrible situation to think about, but as we all know, the recession hits and people lose their jobs. Obviously this is very bad for them, but doesn’t it create new opportunities for internet entrepreneurs?
When I’m bored I’ll go onto the World Wide Web and search around for random things, so thinking about all of this logically, the people who are out of jobs will most likely by on the web searching around for what they can do next in their lives, or just playing some free games to cheer themselves up. Consequently this means that there are more people on the internet, more potential visitors/customers for you.
As well as this, people are more interested in trying new things, anything which can make them money to be able to cope a bit longer without a job. This is where, if you have a unique money making product, comes in very useful, as you will hopefully see your units sold increase. This could also be the case for websites such as Smashing Magazine, who recently released their book; people want to make websites when they are out of work, due to it being quite cheap to set up.
I know this isn’t the normal way to look at something like this, but in my opinion it works out quite logically, if you have anything to add please leave a comment.
Organisations Marketing Budgets Fall = More Internet Advertising
Marketing for an organisation will consist of advertising in many forms, including TV, Radio and the Internet. When a marketing budget falls, it means there is less money to spend on advertising the product. However, internet advertising is seen as one of the cheapest options. Therefore, in this recession you may have found your earnings go up online, as organisations are advertising on the web, instead of traditional places, such as the TV. When I say traditional, I mean this as the web is still a relatively new place for people to advertise.
Another point links in with what I discussed above. As more people are running websites, there will be more people who will potentially advertise their site on yours, meaning more competition to chose from, so you can chose the highest earners and makes more money.
The Recession, Bad for All?
Obviously the recession was a very bad time for many people, but it will have also benefited some people, and I believe that it could of helped people like us. However, I would still love to hear your opinions and how the recession has affected your blog or website.
