Improving a Niche Website – Niche Story Part 1
Today I would like to start delving into my niche website story, introducing what my niche website is for and what I plan over the coming months in terms of teachings I can give to you, and teaching I need from you.
For about a year now I have been running a nice website which helps me earn a bit of money online. It is not significant. All it really does is earn more enough money to pay for my hosting and domain costs, which of course helps a lot as I means I am making enough to stay afloat and do what I enjoy.
I am going to very secretive in this post, not telling you too many details about my niche website, as I want to give you enough room for imagination. Reading this post should open up your mind and give your ideas of what kind of niches you could go into to increase your earning potential.
You may think that staying quiet about what niche website I run is making this post pointless and therefore you shouldn’t continue, however, as I stated above, you don’t need to know to get ideas. Use your head and think of what you could be doing.
Why I Started a Niche Website
When I first got into trying to make money online and trying my own things, I read a lot on websites and how they make money. I wanted to know exactly how websites like F1fanatic.co.uk and AbsolutePunk (websites I read regularly) made enough money to make it a full time job. I wanted to know. I had to know.
This led me to sites such as ProBlogger, but they weren’t doing what I really wanted. At the time I didn’t want to blog, I wanted to have a community, somewhere which not only made money, but somewhere I could make friends and have a good time.
Of course, like most plans, it didn’t happen exactly like this. When I finally found a guide to making niche websites, it explained that I needed a subject area which not money people were in, something which I could top the rankings in and therefore get traffic, because as we all know, traffic makes money.
The Subject Became an Odd One
I searched for weeks for what I should do my niche on. Desperately looking for keywords In subjects that I liked which I could try and make a website for. Not only would this make me more interested, but it would allow me to write content which was of a higher quality, as I would know the subject and in turn be more encouraged to write.
I couldn’t find anything though. The search took a different direction and I searched anything, literally anything which I could exploit. And that is where I stumbled upon a subject which caught my eye, one I could build something on with relative ease.
The problem was though. I had absolutely no interest in the subject at all.
At the time this was not a problem, as I just wanted to try making a niche website. I dreamt it would lead to riches, but in the light of day, the experience was the most valuable aspect of it all.
The Next Step
I built the website. I promoted the website and I made sure it was getting enough traffic to get some money coming through the doors. I also ignored it, forgot about it and didn’t take too much of an interest. It brought in the small change, but without attention it was getting nowhere.
This is where I leave this section though, as this will come up in following articles!
The Coming Months
I want to get this niche website more traffic, I want to build up its content and I want it to earn more money. Over the next couple of months I will be working on these aspects and implementing them. I’m going to change the way niche websites are done. Currently they are small content websites with no need to return after the initial look, I want to make people return.
Whatever I do I will be posting here, and I hope some others can join in in making their niche websites better and more profitable.
Group Discussion
I would love people who have created their own niche websites to start a discussion in the comments section of this article. Why did you start a niche website, what is your niche website and how is it doing? I’m looking for quotes to put in my follow up articles, and with you helping the discussion we can learn even more.
I look forward to your inputs.
