Just How Important Is Labour Productivity?

Employees are a very important of any business, well any which employ people, as they are running the day-to-day parts of your business, whether that is finance, HRM or even the factory workers. As they are so important, they need to be good and not just normal good, they need to work hard for your business which in turn should help you make more money. Productivity is the key and in this article I will be presenting you with reasons of why productivity is so important.

Increasing Productivity Will Increase Sales

If you work in a business which sells, such as in a shop, by increasing your productivity you will be able to sell more products. This is because your staff will be working at a quicker rate and in turn this means that they will be able to get things done quicker, by getting things done quicker, they will have more time to work on moving the stock of the selves and into peoples bags which means cash in your tills.

Increasing Productivity Will Reduce Costs

This is one of the most beneficial consequences of improving employee productivity. By making people work harder, you can reduce your costs. This is because, especially in the case of factory work etc. it will take less time to carry out the tasks which have been set and in turn this means that variable costs go down, such as the amount of electricity is being used in the factory. Output per head will increase and this means that you are getting more for your money from employees, saving costs again.

Increased Productivity Will Help meet Demand

By having an increased productivity you can get everything done much quicker and this in turn means that you can meet demand much quicker. This is important because it will set you ahead of your competitors and this in turn could make you a more likely chose to go with when someone in choosing a company to supply them, buy from or generally anything. This is because when you can meet sudden demand, people will be more confident in your company. As well as this, being able to meet demand will mean that you don’t miss out on revenue which can be generated through extra sales in certain times.

The most important aspect of labour productivity is that it can reduce costs, which at the current time, coming out of a recession, is very important and well, it should be important all the time so that you can maximise you profits.

  • Training workers so that they enhance their skills and attitudes towards their jobs
  • Improve motivation of staff
  • Improve the working practices within a business
  • Improve technology and equipment available to workers
