On My Own I’m Finally Free

Here we go again, I’ve been inspired by lyrics again. I don’t know what it is, but when I’m listening to songs, ideas just pop into my head. Its one of the many reasons I love music, and especially music which has great lyrics.

Today’s lyrics;

On My Own I’m Finally Free

Come from ‘Injection’ a song by the great band ‘Rise Against’. If you are interested in reading the rest of the lyrics please take a look, after you have read the rest of this of course.

On My Own I’m Finally Free

Many people go into self-employment because they want freedom; they want to experience a work life without the stress, the constant nagging of bosses and co-workers. But can this actually happen? Is self-employment really the answer to all of our working woes?

You Are Never Free

It is a very negative viewpoint, but I don’t want to beat around the bush. Even if you are your own boss, you’re not going to escape the stress; it’s all around us and taking one thing away, will just bring another one up. Think of a pillow you are trying to get a lump out of, as soon as it disappears from one area, it is bound to come up in another area of the pillow. What you will experience is a different kind of stress. Instead of having that constant nagging, you are going to be worrying about when the next order is coming in, how your cash-flow is and when your next pay check is.

Managing yourself is not all it is cracked up to be.

Let’s Look at the Bright-side

I can’t just continue on this negative path though can I? People dream of working for themselves their whole lives, hey, I want to work for myself once I have finished university. So… What is the bright-side of what I have just said? It’s obvious, you are your own boss, it doesn’t matter how much work it is you can have the sense of achievement. Whenever you do receive a pay check from yourself, it will feel so, so, so much better than receiving one from your old boss. You will get that sense of accomplishment, you haven’t just made some money because you are doing the same old tasks for people above you, you have made money because you are a success.

What is a better feeling?

Now Over to You…

    Interesting read, thanks. I’m hoping to go into full time self-employment by the end of this year and the main thing driving me is the thought that I will be building something for my future rather than just working for a pay check.
