What is Pocodot? Internet Marketing Using YouTube
Currently whenever you go on a popular music video on YouTube you are bound to see a comment, which has been rated up into the top spot, which mentions ‘Pocodot’. Now I have seen this a few times over the past week or so, and because of that I Googled it as soon as I saw it and was intrigued.
So It Worked?
All in all, yes it did. The whole point of why Pocodot have been putting these comments on YouTube is so that people see it, wonder what it is and then search for it. The problem was that when I first searched for this website, I couldn’t find anything, although I didn’t think of just putting http://pocodot.com into my browser, but that’s another matter. If Google didn’t have it listed it didn’t exist.
I then forgot about it. Until today, I was watching a video today and the name was mentioned again, take a look at the comment which was posted;

This led me to searching for the website again and hey presto it was at the top of Google. All these little mentions of the name, increasing their traffic, must have shown Google it’s a new force in town.
Anyway, what is Pocodot?
By the looks of things, Pocodot is a new social-networking website. I signed up to have a look; you have to sign-up to get any idea really, which is another of their marketing techniques which has worked on me. What a fool I am. So I sign-up and the follow all of the steps, and then I am presented with the main page, the social hub of the websites, which you can see below;
Pocodot is Facebook
The first conclusion we can come to then is that Pocodot is a Facebook clone which has implemented features which people may find useful and ones which Facebook haven’t done, despite many wanting them… Yes I’m talking about the ‘Dislike’ button. Apart from that, and the temperature and my location at the top of the page, it seems pretty much the same.
If you have tested this new social-networking out, please leave your impressions in the comments. Oh, and did you fall for their marketing techniques? I think that gives us marketers a few tips on how to get our brand out there!

Hey Simon,
Have never heard of Pocodot and am usually turned off by all the “new” social networking sites that pop up each day. Will be curious to learn what you think about the site itself though. Do you believe it’s worth joining?
Thanks Simon…
Adrienne
No Its not worth it at the moment, all-in-all it seems like an exact Facebook clone, but with some added features to try and get people to join and ditch Facebook. It will be interesting to see how the website does over the next few months, but I can’t see it amounting to much.
Thanks for the comment,
Simon.
I was also interested in pocodot due to these youtube videos..
Personally, i didn’t like it from the time i signed up…the thing is, they don’t give you the opportunity to delete your account.i sent them an e-mail to learn if there is actually a way to delete the account but i didn’t get any reply yet
Their technique to make you create an account is smart, but in the end people will learn about it and will stop signing up..
I noticed that most profiles don’t even have a profile picture, so yeah i guess their popularity will fade in some weeks
Very true, I think it will be a small fad and then go away, I can’t see anything challenging Facebook at the moment.
I signed up to see what it’s all about. I had too. POCODOT might of soured it’s sign ups by the way they presented their site. Only time will tell!
it sounds like a scam.
Wow, that’s such a scam. I’m not signing up for it…I don’t think any social networking site can beat Facebook! Not any time soon, anyway.
I heard that when you sign up, they take all your info and send it to a third party, as well as give you a virus.
Not sure about the info one, but I did not get a virus from signing up.
Thanks for the comment.
It sounds like scam. I’ve seen a couple of videos on youtube about pocodot and it says that once you make the account you cant delete it which sucks. And well it says that it uses personal information to hack your stuff. So really, is pocodot worth it?
I don’t know how much of this is true, but obviously they are getting some very bad press. maybe a disadvantage of using such an intrusive way of promoting their website.
