Writing Good Content: Getting the Most Out Of Your Writing

I’ve never been a good writer, because most of the time I don’t like doing it and this leads me down the road of just writing to finish. What is different about you writing for this blog you ask? The obvious answer is that I like writing articles and content about the subject of this website. The not so obvious answer is that I enjoy writing about whatever pops into my head at any given time, and this is what I base these articles on, random thoughts I come up with. Not only does this make it much more interesting for me, but I feel it makes it more interesting for you, the reader, because I am giving you exactly what I think, instead of over-done writing which has been in the making for weeks.

Whether what I just said is what you all think is your own personal opinion, you may hate my writing.

Just Don’t Be Boring

You don’t want to bore people, they may still read on because they are learning, but they won’t appreciate it. This will lead to them not coming back to your website in the future, which in the long run means building traffic will be much harder. Keeping content interesting can be a challenge, but if you stick to some simple rules, then it can be a lot easier:

Make Titles Which Stand Out, But Mean Something – It’s hard to think of how to split your articles up. Titles are a great way, but they have to mean something. Not only do they have to mean something, but they have to stand out. To make my titles stand out, I like making them quite long, as this makes them stand out more and I can add more content to them. This way also means that I can clearly show my readers what the next section is going to be about.

Write Like You Were Talking – Like I mentioned above, writing like you were talking is a preferred style of mine. This is mainly because I find it much easier to read, because it sounds like someone is talking to you, which in my opinion makes you feel more involved in the writing. This may sound crazy, but when I’m reading something I want the words to know that I am reading them, and by them being set out like you are saying them to me, it increases the chance of me carrying on past the first chapter. You will see me doing this more in my journey section of the website.

Don’t Follow Normal Rules – It’s always nice to see something different. Now that doesn’t mean go off and right a whole blog in slang words from the 18th Century, but it does mean that mixing things up a bit will never do any harm. Don’t stick to what you were always taught, you can start sentences with ‘and’ and ‘but’. It doesn’t matter how you write, as long as it makes sense and gets your point across.

Keeping Content Fresh

These are the main writing points which I have been thinking of whilst putting a few of my first articles together, so they are small things which can be implemented easily. However, I know for a fact that over the next couple of months, over which I will be producing this website, my writing style will change slightly and some of these rules I have added to this post may not exist in my writing, or I may have added to them. I believe in keeping things fresh, change your writing style over time so that you can get bigger audiences. These changes will also help you learn and progress as a writer. Not only this but it will help you see what your readers like and what they don’t like.
